Three weeks ago I began training for my first triathlon – The Pacific Grove Olympic-distance Triathlon in Monterey Bay on September 13th. It's a 1.5K Swim, 40K Bike, 10K Run. Yes, all in a row. Looks like I have heck-load of swimming, biking, running, icing and advil-ing to endure over the next three months.
I'm training with a group called Team-In-Training (TNT). Everyone on the team raises funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. As some of you might remember, this is the same awesome group I fundraised and trained with when I ran the Honolulu marathon 10-years ago. Wow, how time flies.
This year I'm racing again in honor of all those individuals battling blood cancers, but most of all, to honor my friend Daisy Hebb, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in late January. We met on a 6-day trek around Ausangate, the highest peak in Southern Peru, during my Latin-American travels last year. Since we met she's inspired me to raft insane rapids, climb Incan ruins, learn to dance salsa and now to train for my first triathlon.
As I train, she'll be continuing her fight against Leukemia with a stem cell transplant which began this past week. Her brother Ben is her donor. Daisy is one of the most positive and adventurous people I've ever met, can't wait until she's back out leading rafting trips, climbing mountains and ripping up the dance floor.
If you're able to make a donation to support my race to find a cure, the easiest place to do so is at my TNT fundraising page.
Thank you for all of your support!
